Our Story
Galata Muhallebicisi came to life in mid 2009 as a productive blend of modern ideas and traditional recipes that we inherited from Bankalar Muhallebicisi, which was founded in Galata quarter in 1879.
Our principal goal is to present age-old delights of our national kitchen such as milk-based, pastry-and-syrup-based desserts, and Turkish dishes in a comfortable and modern ambience, with prices that everybody can afford so that we can meet today's expectations.
"Galata" was chosen as a trade mark for two important reasons: the first is that the source of our craft is the old restaurant (Bankalar Muhallebicisi) in the Galata quarter; and the second is that the name of the Galata quarter itself comes from the word "Gala" which signifies "milk" in Greek. Thus, the palisade figure of the Galata Bridge and the Galata Tower became symbols inseparable from our corporate identity.
Giving priority to our institutionalization, we first built a Central Production Facility in Cobancesme, Istanbul. Since the summer of 2009, our food engineering team and master chefs have been actively re-inventing dishes with both flour-based products and animal products such as meat, milk and eggs which we consider critical inputs.
Our first branch was opened in the last quarter of 2009 at the food court of the new shopping mall: 212Istanbul, in Mahmutbey on Basın Ekspres road. The restaurant's interior design was inspired by the white color of milk and muhallebi. We are planning new investments in line with this concept of "comfortable and modern ambience" in collaboration with our business partners Yuda Architectural Project and Design.
After having created a Restaurant, a Café and an Express (a kiosk type of sales point) concepts under the trademark of Galata, we are open to franchising opportunities. Moreover, we supply an important number of Hotels and Restaurants from our Central Production Facility. Galata Muhallebicisi is an investment of GIT Limited.
